Topic Website Information
When you first visit the website, it may be a little overwhelming. There's a great deal happening in Long Clawson, and a great deal happening at the website too. We cover a few of the basics here.
Overview Unlike many other village websites the "Long Clawson Village Website" is setup to share community news. If YOU have news, please submit a story yourself. There is a link above (next to the one you clicked to read this, in fact) called "Submit News" to permit you to do this. Or you could email the editor.
The 'Home Page' When you first visit the site (the home page), you'll see a summary of the most recent stories. From there, if there is more information, you can select an article by clicking on the "Read More" link.
You'll see pictures (icons) along with every story. These pictures represent "Topics". Any article will usually be found in an appropriate topic.
Topics On the left hand side of the screen, there is a menu which displays the Topics. They have been put into a tree structure to help you get around. The site map shows all of them together. You can click on these links, but there's also a pop-up menu at the top left of the page ("Menu") - you'll find it quicker to navigate using this.
When you display a topic, you get a summary of each of the articles within it (just like the front page.) You can click on the "Read more" text or the picture to show the full article. (If there is only one article in a topic it is displayed in full straight away.)
The menu bar A few standard website functions can also be found along the top of the page, such as links to other websites in Links. There is also a discussion forum where you can talk about village issues, or buy and sell things, perhaps.
The Calendar At the right hand side of the home page you'll see an overview of the current month. The website keeps track of events in and around the village. Any days which have events on them are highlighted. You can click on the date to see what events are on that day, or click on the month name to see a more detailed overview, or the year to see the whole year.
Create your own account If you want to, you can create your own account on the website. This will let you receive weekly emails of the latest news and upcoming events. You will also be able to add your own events into the calendar if you wish.
Communicating We have already mentioned one way in which you can communicate with other villagers using the Discussion Forums. This is good for swapping ideas. Later, when people visit the site they will see previous "posts" and be able to reply.
There are two other communication features on the website ...
Private Messages When you have your own account other people can send you private messages. These are held on the website (not sent to your email address) and you can see how many outstanding private messages you have all of the time in the menu on the left (once you have logged on). If you wish, you can also load the "LCVW Messenger" whilst you are visiting the site. This will keep an eye on your private messages, and if anyone sends you one it will instantly tell you, and let you reply.
Chat There is also an online chat facility. This is like an instant (public) discussion board. When there are multiple visitors to the site they can can all talk with each other at the same time using this feature.
We hope you found this brief overview helpful - Now explore !
